Frequently asked questions
What is RBJ Residences?
RBJ Residences is a flagship affordable senior housing community in Austin, TX. It first opened in 1972 as the Rebekah Baines Johnson Center and was often called the RBJ Tower.
In 2012, as the nonprofit was close to paying off the original mortgage, the RBJ Board of Directors initiated a strategic planning process to upgrade and expand RBJ. This included the construction of a new mid-rise apartment building The Ladybird which opened in 2022, and the complete renovation of the original RBJ Tower.
In 2025, RBJ Senior Housing finished construction on the expanded and upgraded campus and reopened as RBJ Residences with two buildings: The Rebekah and The Ladybird.
There are a total of 503 apartments at RBJ Residences with 98% of all units reserved as affordable housing to serve seniors with extremely low- to moderate incomes.
